Matt Damonand Ben Affleck have been close friends for a long time. However, the demise of Damon’s father had a massive impact on the life of the actor. His father passed away at 74, which created a sudden change in his bond with Affleck. Damon shared that the tragic loss assisted them to appreciate the gift of time.
The Departedactor shared in a conversation withWho’s Talking to Chris Wallace,
“After my dad passed in 2017 — and Ben was very, very close with him — it changed something in us. I think and you know, you start to really […] you start to see the end game and you start to feel like I want to make every second count. I don’t want to fritter away time anymore.”

Damon added that felt another shift in their bond after the release of the 2021 Beatles documentaryGet Back.He shared that he called Pearl Harbor actor,
“I called him and I said, ‘Look man, you know, we were talking about (working together more) and it’s been 25 years or something since Good Will Hunting like … what are we doing? You know, we both kind of hit the lottery. Why aren’t we working together more often?’”
