Neither IMF agent Ethan stopped jumping from dangerous places and neither did Pete forget how to swirl his fighter jet. The movie on the latter was a smashing hit, grossing $1.496 billion worldwide. Fans and critics alike loved the nostalgic take on Maverick’s life, who even after so many years in the sky, continues to dodge the advancement in rank that would ground him.
Its success must’ve also given Cruise plenty of confidence for his seventh stint as Ethan inMission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.In fact, it also prompted the question of “Why Not?” for other legacy sequels.

Jackson‘s Mitch Henessey shined inThe Long Kiss Goodnightby rocking loud and colored clothes and leaving everyone amazed with his wisecracking persona. Both distinctive characters played a bigger part than the plot in the success of their respective movies.
The 1996 action mystery is the story about school teacher and single mother Samantha Caine (Geena Davis), who turns to detective and ex-con Mitch Hennessey (Jackson) to unravel secrets from her mysterious past that start to haunt her present life.
Much like most of Jackson’s movies, not onlyThe Long Kiss Goodnightdid well at the box office, but it also gained a cult following, and accordingly a great desire from many fans to see Mitch on the big screen once again.
Talking about the movie, the MCU regular toldVulture:
“Long Kiss is an awesome movie. And I still love Mitch Hennessy. I’d do a Mitch Hennessy movie in a minute. Maybe the daughter grows up and she wants to know more about her mom and she takes on the whole mantle of who Charly Baltimore was.”
“Why not? They did another Top Gun,”the interviewer remarked with Jackson replying,“Come find Mitch. Come find Mitch Hennessy!”
Having seen him frequently portray Nick Fury in countless Marvel ventures, it’d be a nice change for fans to see Jackson bring back one of his iconic characters.

Why Samuel L. Jackson Wasn’t the First Choice for The Long Kiss Goodnight
Not many actors would have managed to turn Mitch, a cynical ex-con detective, into the star of the show like Jackson, and yet he wasn’t the first choice for the movie. In fact, he had to really push hard to get into the Renny Harlin-directed movie.
He revealed toVulturein the same interview that the studio wouldn’t even see him. But he met the director at a party, who was unaware of the development. Right there on the spot, Harling said:“You’re in the movie.”
The reason why the studio didn’t want him for the part was because there was a “greater romantic thing” happening between Mitch and Davis’ character. Eventually, some scenes from the original script were altered and Jackson played the part to great effect.
