One of our best representations of office life isThe Office, an American mockumentary sitcom that aired from 2005 to 2013 and was based on the sour, dull-looking, painfully funny British sitcom of the same name. For nine seasons, Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski played Pam Beesly and Jim Halpert, respectively, the show’s most adored couple.

The Officeis arguably the most popular and is unquestionably the best ever. However,it took some time to gain popularity, but after it overcame the early setbacks of the first season, the show really took off. Based on the BBC series of the same name,The Officestill continues to draw in new viewers and delight its devoted audience while being available on streaming services.

Despite the countless accolades the sitcom and its lead actors have received from admirers all over the world, it sometimes seems like there are also non-haters in the line.

John Krasinski Escaped PassionateThe OfficeHater in Surprising Encounter

If not for this bizarre incident, John Krasinski might have ended up being the only actor with only positive fan interactions.

The Officeactor appeared onLate Night with Conan O’Brienin 2022 to discuss how much he had changed since his time as the show’s intern. Later, Krasinski told a less-than-fun tale about a bizarre encounter withThe Officefan (or should we say, ‘hater’?).The actor was approached by a girl who enquired as to his involvement withThe Office. And after receiving a positive response, she stated:

“I don’t watch it, so I don’t care.”

Then she introduced her friend, “Sarah”, who was a huge fan. The 43-year-old actor, being the nice guy, chatted with Sarah for a little while about her favoriteThe Officeepisode before being abruptly cut off.

He recalled having this “moment of complete surreality” when he could not even speak because the “original” girl had suddenly stuck her fingers down his throat (perhaps she really hated the aforementioned episode?).

“And this girl just sticks her fingers inside my throat. Yeah, the first girl was like, Boom. And I was like, ‘I looked over to her and literally there was this moment of complete surreality.”

The girl looked up at the actor and said:

“Oh, I am sorry, I just”and“walked away”.

Conan speculated that the fan’s bizarre behavior may have been an attempt to determine whether Krasinski was a real person standing in front of her.

John Krasinski Explained Why People Still Enjoy the Show

John Krasinski, who played Jim Halpert on the show, was a fan favorite and largely responsible for its success. The actor previously discussed his time onThe Officeduring aConan O’Brien Needs a Friendpodcast interview, revealing that the show initially faced a weekly cancellation threat.

Conan O’Brienremarked to his guest, saying:

“I think we’re all going to be watching The Office 50 years from now. It’s not going to lose its luster because there’s nothing about it that feels fake or ‘OK, that was great in its moment, but you had to be there.’”

TheJarheadactor then recalled that during the first season, the show struggled to gain viewers:

“It was going to be canceled every single Friday.”

Even though Krasinski had his doubts that the show would succeed, it somehow continued. He acknowledged thatThe Office’s popularity was entirely due to its viewers:

“We genuinely owe the entire show to the fans. As soon as people bought a show that they could see for free… they had to keep the show on. So we had our fanbase actually save our show.”

Krasinski commented on the reasons why the program has remained popular over time:

“I think a lot of that has to do with how absolutely authentic [creator] Greg [Daniels] made it. I think that it was so authentic and to be honest, ahead of its time in a way too authentic for the network.”

For the unversed, an estimated 5.7 million people watched the series finale when it first aired on July 12, 2025, and it received positive reviews.
