James Cameron Used Titanic to Convince the Studio to Include His Favorite Scenes in Avatar

Ahead of the release ofAvatar: The Way of Water,James Camerontalked to the New York Times about a clash he had with the studio. It was regarding some scenes in the original film.

He said that the studio was planning to keep the film short. Cameron also shared that the studio wanted to cut off some flying scenes from the film. But he insisted on having them in the movie.

He said,“Well, it turns out that’s what the audience loved the most, in terms of our exit polling and data gathering.”

He further says that this is where he drew the line and said,“You know what? I made ‘Titanic.’ This building that we’re meeting in right now, this new half-billion dollar complex on your lot? ‘Titanic’ paid for that, so I get to do this.”

Left with no choice, the studio has to agree with Cameron. The film grossed nearly $3 billion at the global box office and became the highest-grossing film of all time.

James Cameron said that the studio thanked him. He said, “I feel that my job is to protect their investment, often against their judgment. But as long as I protect their investment, all is forgiven.”

James Cameron to Re-release Avatar With Some Updates

The 2009Avataris getting a re-release before the release ofAvatar: The Way of Water. The film became the top-grossing film after its release but was replaced by Avengers: Endgame after its release.

The idea to re-release the film faced backlash on social media. People started claiming that the director is focused only on cash grabs with the re-release ofAvatarand its sequel.

Avatarwill be re-released on September 23. The film will not have any extra scenes or any improved visual effects. However, it will be updated with a stunning 4K HDR transfer. The updated trailer is available on theAvatar YouTubechannel.

Disney has also removed the film from its streaming platform after the re-release was announced. It is believed that the film will be available on Disney+ after its release on 23 September.

Avatar: The Way of Waterfeatures the original cast of the first film. Michelle Yeoh, Kate Winslet, Jemaine Clement, Oona Chaplin, Edie Falco, and Cliff Curtis will be joining the original cast in the upcoming film.
