The DC franchise is all-ready to introduce their new superhero,Blue Beetlewhich hopefully would bring their good luck back. Being the first live-action superhero film starring a Latino lead, many are excited to watch Jaime Reyes / Blue Beetle, played byXolo Maridueñashowing his charms on-screen.

Amid the excitement, director, Ángel Manuel Soto talked toThe Digital Fixto share his insights on working on this project, and at one point, addressed the similarities between Spider-Man and the new DC superhero.
The film director called himself a fan of both superheroes.
“I take great honor in that comparison because I’m a huge fan of both!”
He continued,

“I think it’s very human to draw connections to stuff in order to find ways to relate to them. So, after witnessing, in my opinion, Miles Morales, for example, it made even more sense to make those comparisons because Miles Morales is Afro Latnix and Jaime is Mexican-American.”
The film is set in the fictional Palmera City where Maridueña’s character gets chosen by the Scarab to take on the Blue Beetle powers. This has seemingly led many to spot the similarities between Reyes and Web-slinger.

Talking more about the superhero characters, he also shed light on how the duo are similar to one another. He mentioned,
“And I think the charisma of both characters and how they relate to and deal with conflict, they’re not that far apart.”
What makes the duo similar is their deep connection with their family. The newly introduced superhero’s grandmother, Nana Reyes, portrayed by Adriana Barraza is also a crucial character as Soto mentioned her as a“hero.”He continued,
“Her revolutionary past is definitely worth exploring. Especially coming from Mexico, what that entails, what that would look like, and how that informs her.”
He further asserted,
“And not just that — there’s the legacy to all of this that’s been passed on to Jaime,”he added.“you’re able to learn a lot from the matriarch of the family. And I think getting some wisdom from Nana will be really interesting.”
Given the string of flops the franchise is delivering this year including the disastrous box-office performance ofThe Flash, this film is now a ray of hope for the studio to entice their followers back. With promising reviews by film critics and audiences as for now, theBlue Beetleis now running in theatres.
