The much-anticipated sequel toDeath Strandingwas something fans had been looking forward to at The Game Awards. However, instead of announcing the title at The Game Awards, it seems that fans will be braving a new game with unfamiliar faces, horrifying themes, and a modern-gen graphical overhaul.

OD The Game Awards

The new title by Kojima and the team is calledODand is clearly a different direction from what we’ve seen inDeath Stranding.Instead,ODwill be an interactive experience that will be a careful blend between traditional video game tropes, movies, and other interactive experiences.

With OD, players will be fighting different demons when compared to Death Stranding 2.

Almost a year ago, KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS surprised fans with a reveal trailer forDeath Stranding 2that gave us a look at the continuation ofDeath Stranding’sriveting themes and a world that’s seemingly getting mysterious and uncanny as familiar (and unfamiliar) characters take the spotlight.

Now, holding onto that thought and having similar expectations… fans are in for something strikingly different, coming from the same mind that has a knack for absurdity and haunting themes.

Death Stranding 2 new reveal

The teaser trailer forODdoesn’t really tell us much, except a few characters (who look terrified) uttering sentences and one-liners before giving into absolute fear. Cryptic, right? That’s exactly how Hideo Kojima reveals many of his plans.

It’s important to note thatDeath Strandinguses the Decima engine, a powerful canvas for open-world games likeHorizon Zero DawnandHorizon Forbidden West. The engine does a terrific job at raising benchmarks for graphical overhauls and physics that can test the platform’s true potential.

The same engine is likely to be used forOD, in a more in-depth fashion when it comes to character models, expressions, and how players interact with the game overall.

Nonetheless, even though It’s unlikely that new players will take time to get used to this game’s convoluted world, it’s best to wait and watch how Kojima and his team take things forward, revealing more about the game as days pass.

When will we see more of Death Stranding 2?

The release ofDeath Strandingin 2019 saw the community’s mixed response to the game’s overall direction. Hideo Kojima is known for writing and directing mysterious video games, butDeath Strandingtook a different stance when it tried to mix slow gameplay, complicated narratives, and world-building that would carefully blend single-player and online play.

Unfortunately, there’s no certain time frame or window for the game’s release, let alone another teaser or gameplay deep-dive we know of. However, we are aware of certain returning themes to the game. For instance, Troy Baker’s return as Higgs marks an important turn of narrative for the game, given his prominent role in the first one.

Furthermore, this time, Sam Porter Bridges (played by Norman Reedus) will face a plethora of newer threats and a newfound purpose that puts him in a complex situation once again.

ODandDeath Stranding 2move Kojima’s ambitions as two massive projects going forward, and we’ll have to stay patient until we hear more about these projects in the near project. There’s a chance that OD may just revolutionize its own sub-genre, too.

In the case ofDeath Stranding, many saw it as a slow burn, but eventually, more players got hooked on the game’s idea and what Kojima was trying to achieve. Essentially, these games are Kojima’s attempt at actualizing the philosophy behind human connection.

Both games play a huge role in how players view the idea of co-op. In the first game, the open-world nature ofDeath Strandinghad players connecting different parts of the United States in hopes of reconnection people with one another, and this would indirectly help other players out, too.

WithDeath Stranding 2, the studio is focusing on giving characters almost twice the depth by tying it closely to how the world works. New enemy types, tools, and more will be part of the game’s dynamic environments.

The game surely seems to have the potential to draw in new players and raise the bar for open-world games in general. However, we still need to keep in mind thatDeath Stranding 2’sgameplay will likely remain a niche for many players.
