Everybody knows Jeff Bezos: If he has his mind on something, he won’t stop until his objective is attained. And that’s exactly what the executive chairman of Amazon is currently doing with Jake Gyllenhaal’s much-awaited upcoming classic reboot forRoad House: Letting it go directly to streaming without a theatrical release, even though pretty much no one from the official cast and crew from the movie is agreeing to it.

Jake Gyllenhaal‘s upcoming remake of the 1989 classic action/westernRoad Housewas much awaited by fans ever since pictures of a ripped Gyllenhaal lit the internet on fire. Directed by Doug Liman, the movie would have seen the actor playing an ex-UFC fighter who ends up working for the security of a shady Florida bar.

While this was previously expected to hit the theatres by this fall, plans seem to have been changed by Amazon MGM Studios Distribution as they pulled the plug to get the film directly released on streaming instead. Following this, reports claim that an early 2024 release on Prime Video is the new plan set by the distributing company.

However, the cast and crew for the reboot haven’t admitted defeat yet. According toPuck News(further shared by@DiscussingFilm on X),Joel Silver,Doug Liman, andAri Emanuel(aka CEO of the company WME that represents Gyllenhaal) were so upset about Amazon not giving the film a theatrical release that they had Jeff Bezos screening the movie on his yacht to convince him:

“Jake Gyllenhaal and Doug Liman were so pissed Amazon won’t give the ‘ROAD HOUSE’ remake a theatrical release that they got Jeff Bezos to screen the film on his yacht to convince him.

The film is still going to streaming.”

I fear we will only see more and more streaming services want to only have it stream on their platform and cut out the (middle man)movie theaters

Shoot Amazon is so big they could open up their own movie theater and push theatrical releases that way

Others, in the meanwhile, are unfazed by it and in fact, find the last part about the movie still going down to streaming funny. Here are their sarcastic remarks on it:

So far, the theatrical release of Jake Gyllenhaal’s upcomingRoad Houseremake seems as unlikely as Jeff Bezos’ chance of changing his decisions.
