It appears Sony may be taking a page out of the Microsoft book by looking into hiring a new acquisitions manager for PlayStation. If you’re unfamiliar with the recent news coming from Microsoft, the massive tech company has been fighting a case against the Federal Trade Commission over its acquisition of Activision-Blizzard.
While the case has had its ups and downs, it now appears the government will not be able to preclude the two companies from completing the $68.7 billion transaction. Fans believe these recent events have triggered Sony into reaching out for a new acquisitions manager.

Sony is certainly not a stranger to hiring acquisition experts for PlayStation and other divisions within its organization. There were even documents disclosed during the FTC hearing that indicated Sony keeps a close eye on market trends, Xbox strategies, and potential acquisitions. It appears the next move for Sony will be to look into potential developers to buy.
Some video game insiders have theorized Sony would be interested in CD Projekt Red or Square Enix, however, there is no way to know for sure. And it is very possible the Japanese multinational conglomerate is waiting to hire its acquisitions Manager before making any final decisions.
In the past, Sony has focused much of its attention toward first-party developers. These are video game developers who manufacture titles exclusively for one console. Sony has put together an incredible collection of successful studios such as: Santa Monica Studio, Insomniac Games, Naughty Dog, Guerrilla Games, and more. Games have seen a lineup of impressive, exclusive, games from Sony and now fans are hoping for acquisitions of other well-established video game companies.
What Is In Sony’s Job Description for the Acquisition Manager Position?
The Sony acquisition job position is titled: Manager, Corporate Strategy and Development-Integration and Acceleration. The listing begins by talking about the various PlayStation products developed by Sony and how the company strives to create an inclusive environment, embracing diversity. It then goes into a job description, which is as follows:
“Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) seeks a highly qualified candidate for the position of Manager, Corporate Strategy & Development-Integration and Acceleration. The Corporate Development and Strategy team works closely with SIE’s leadership team to identify and execute inorganic growth opportunities through acquisitions, investments or joint ventures that are aligned with SIE’s strategic priorities and drive significant long-term value for the company.
Opportunities are assessed based on rigorous investment criteria and evaluation by internal stakeholders.
