In a tweet posted on X on December 1, Remedy teased that the New Game Plus mode forAlan Wake 2could be coming this month. While it doesn’t officially announce the launch of the upcoming addition, the post leaves little room for interpretation.

The New Game Plus mode for Alan Wake 2 will give fans a good reason to return to the Dark Place once again.

The studio behind the celebrated horror game had previously confirmed a New Game Plus mode would be added to the game sometime after launch. While no specific date has been announced yet, it seems the update is imminent.

With the Nightmare difficulty mode and new narrative elements, it should give fans a solid reason to return to the Dark Place.

Remedy has confirmed Alan Wake 2’s New Game Plus mode will add new Manuscript pages.

Alan Wake 2 New Game Plus Could Launch This Month

Remedy’sposton X all but confirms that a New Game Plus mode will be added toAlan Wake 2at some point in December. While the post doesn’t announce this explicitly, the not-so-cryptic tease clearly implies it.

The post shows an image of the protagonist pointing a flashlight at a wall, with the words “New Game+” appearing in its beam of light. Alongside the image, the caption reads, “New month, new game… plus?”

The tweet was posted on December 1, meaning the “new month” part of the caption most likely refers to December, suggesting the new mode will be added at some point before the end of the month.

AsAlan Wake 2garnered the most nominations alongsideBaldur’s Gate 3at this year’s The Game Awards, the game’s update could potentially be officially announced at the coveted awards show on December 7.

Remedy’s horror game has been nominated in eight categories, including Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, and Game of the Year. The Game Awards could, therefore, be the perfect moment for Remedy to announce the New Game+ update while celebrating the game’s stellar reception. However, this is just speculation at this point.

Nightmare Difficulty Mode and New Manuscript Pages

Ahead of the game’s launch, Remedy confirmed a New Game+ mode would be coming at a later stage, with the “exact release timing still TBD.” According to atweet posted on Xon October 26, the new mode will:

New Game Plus typically lets players revisit a game they have already played while retaining some or all of the items and abilities they acquired during their first playthrough. In the case ofAlan Wake 2, this will make Alan and Saga more powerful and better equipped to face the nightmares from the get-go.

So far, the game features three difficulty levels: Story, Normal, and Hard. For players looking for an added challenge in their second playthrough, the update will see the return of the Nightmare mode from the first game, the highest level of difficulty. While the developer hasn’t confirmed further details, it is safe to assume it will seriously put players to the test.

What’s probably most exciting for fans of the game is the addition of new alternative narrative elements, which will reportedly include “new Manuscript pages and new video content.” For fans who want to experienceeverythingthe Dark Place has to offer, this should be a good reason to return.

New Game Plus isn’t all fans can look forward to, as Remedy has already confirmed two paid expansions. TitledNight SpringsandLake House, these DLCs will add new experiences, areas, and playable characters set in the world of the game. They are slated for a 2024 launch, but no official release dates have been announced yet.

Alan Wake 2was released on October 27 to massive critical acclaim. Our reviewer Luke gave it a perfect10/10 score, stating that “Remedy has done themselves proud.” With the update imminent and DLC underway, fans will have plenty of reasons to return to the Dark Place very soon.
