Phoebe Waller-Bridge is all set to play the iconic character of Lara Croft in the upcoming seriesTomb Raider, which is based on the popular video game of the same name. The actress is no stranger to the action genre and is once again ready to ace the role of Croft. The actress shared her excitement about working on this project. Fans also have their theories about this project, as they have mixed feelings about it.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge brings back Lara Croft
The titular role of Lara Croft will be brought to life once again as it is being developed byPhoebe Waller-Bridge.Lara Croft is the renowned video game character who has been brought to life twice: by Angelina Jolie in the 2000s and Alicia Vikander in the 2018 filmTomb Raider.
The character is all set to return with a blast, as this time the actress, writer, director, and producer, Waller-Bridge, has taken charge. The script for the upcomingTomb Raiderseries is currently being prepared, and fans will get to witness a new universe around Lara Croft.

This isn’t the first time Waller-Bridge has dealt with the action genre, as the actress has been part of action franchises like James Bond. It would now be interesting to witness Waller-Bridge’s essence inTomb Raider.The actress shared her experience working onTomb Raiderwith Vanity Fair. She said,

“There’s room to do something really quite dangerous. And if I can do something dangerous and exciting with Tomb Raider, I already have an audience of people who love Lara and hopefully will continue to. And that is a very unusual position to be in. It’s the old Trojan horse.”
The actress further expressed her fondness for the character. She said that she devoted herself to the video game so well during the COVID-19 pandemic that she grew nuts about it. When she was approached by Amazon for this project, she simply grabbed the opportunity. She said,

“God, it literally felt like that teenager in me saying: do right by her, do right by Lara!” she said. “The opportunity to have, as we were talking earlier, a female action character…. Having worked on Bond and having worked as an actor on Indy, I feel like I’ve been building up to this.”
The actress further added,

“What if I could take the reins on an action franchise, with everything I’ve learned, with a character I adore, and also just bring back some of that ’90s vibe? It’s such a wonderful feeling to think you know what to do.”
Tomb Raideris a renowned video game that has been adapted twice into movies of the same name. This time, it will be reprised as a television series.

90’s Lara is peak across the board, and taking inspiration from that version will hopefully steer the writing room away from some of the modern tropes that turn these female characters in more of a caricature than a role model.

The series has yet to be completed and is in process. However, looking at the mixed reactions of the fans, it is hard to conclude how well it will be received. Since the series is still in process, there is no fixed release date.
