Jessica Chastain Saw Oscar Isaac Differently After Her Series

Jessica Chastainteamed up withOscar Isaacon the set ofScenes from a Marriage.The series was critically acclaimed as it showed the ups and downs a couple goes through as their marriage gradually falls apart. The intensity of the emotions that both she and Isaac had to display took a toll on her, something she had not expected earlier.

“I love Oscar [Isaac], but the reality is, our friendship has never quite been the same. We’re going to be okay, but after that, I was like, I need a little bit of a breather. There was so much I love you, I hate you in that series. But there’s so much joy in what I get to do. There’s a lot of catharsis.”

The actress focused on how theMoon Knightactor is a great friend of hers but things weren’t the same after the series. She somewhat needed a break from the actor after the emotional turmoil the series put her through. Chastain added as to how it is important for her to live a quiet life and her mental state was not one which would have allowed that. Furthermore, it changed the way she looked at Isaac.

Jessica Chastain Prefers Collaborating With Foreign Directors

Jessica Chastain has an on-again-off-again relationship with Hollywood. Her experience so far has taught her many things. The biggest lesson she has learned is that leaning onto foreign directors is more reliable than otherwise.

“I probably will seek out a lot more foreign filmmakers because I think they’re interested in women of all ages and of all stories and not interested in a Svengali saying, like, I am the creator of this artist. ‘She’s an artist on her own, and I want to collaborate with her.’ It takes a very confident filmmaker—and man—to do that.”

She saw how she was treated as a new actress and how her value slowly declined the less new she became. She compared it to how the male gaze would view Hollywood, proving exactly how an actress would be seen when she first steps into the industry. However, her experience with Foreign directors has been the exact opposite of that. Where they see her as an artist rather than an object to please the male gaze.
