Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 will happen if there’s a “real reason” to do it
After Obi-Wan Kenobi delivered its action-packed finale on Disney+, there’s been uncertainty over whether we’ll see Season 2. According to Lucasfilm and the show’s director, it’ll only happen if there’s “a real reason” to do it.
From the outset,Star Warsfans were excited forObi-Wan Kenobifor one reason above all else: the hyped “rematch of the century” between Darth Vader and his former Jedi master, an unseen face-off between their iconic “battle of the heroes” on Mustafar and final duel in A New Hope.
Criticisms of the lighting and staging of the fight aside, viewers appear to have been left satisfied by the last episode, particularly after a beloved character from the prequels returned ina long-awaited cameo. “Took you long enough.”
Ewan McGregor’s Jedi is now on the path to where Luke Skywalker finds him in Episode IV – however, there may be “more stories” to tell, if there’s enough demand for it.

Obi-Wan Kenobi director on Season 2: “Only if there’s a real reason”
Unlike the likes of The Mandalorian and The Bad Batch, Obi-Wan Kenobi was only ever meant to be one season. “For this one, we really did conceive it to be a limited series,” director Deborah Chow toldEntertainment Tonight.
The show’s conclusion was rather open-ended, though: Vader remains on Mustafar, serving Emperor Palpatine and trying to bury his need for vengeance against Kenobi; young Leia is back on Alderaan and preparing to play a larger role in governance; and we last saw Kenobi riding off into the distance with Qui-Gon Jinn’s (Liam Neeson) force ghost by his side.

Chow added: “I think, you know, if it was to go forward, it would only be if there was a real reason for another one.”

This was echoed by Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, albeit she seemed more hopeful. “Well, frankly, we did set out to do that as a limited series,” she said.
“But I think if there’s huge engagement and people really want more Obi-Wan, we’ll certainly give that consideration because the fans, they speak to us. And if we feel like, ‘OK, there’s a real reason to do this; it’s answering the why then,’ then we’ll do it. But we’ll see.”
Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen call for “more stories”
Both McGregor and Hayden Christensen, who returned to don the Sith Lord’s helmet, have backed calls for a second season. In an interview withGQ, the Trainspotting star said: “I really hope we do another. If I could do one of these every now and again – I’d just be happy about it.”
Christensen acknowledged that while it was conceived as a standalone story, he’d “love to continue with this character” and “would certainly be open to” returning for more episodes down the line.
“You know, I think there’s certainly more there to explore and I would be so excited to get to do so,” he added.
