Since its inception, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has introduced various superheroes while delivering numerous incredible superhero films. But before that, there was Wesley Snipes’ iconicBladewhich is widely known as the first successful Marvel superhero movie. The role was so well portrayed by Snipes that it left a lasting impact on the audience.
The glory of the anti-heroic character was so that many big actors wanted to portray it, and among them was Marvel Star Anthony Mackie. During an interview, the actor expressed his wish to be part of the iconic film. Interestingly, back when they were casting for the role, another legendary actor’s name was on the contender list.

It’s every actor’s dream to be cast as a Marvel comic character once in his career.Anthony Mackieis one of those fortunate ones who got a chance to be a part of the mega franchise playing Sam Wilson since his debut in the filmCaptain America: The Winter Soldier.
However, it seems like it’s not enough for the actor, as previously, Mackie expressed that he wanted to play the iconic character of Blade. In 1998,Bladefeaturing legendary actor Wesley Snipes in the titular role was released.

The audience lauded the antihero character, and even Mackie is a big fan of the character. During an interview ( viamovie web), the actor expressed his admiration for Snipes’ character and said,
“I pretty much want to grow up to be Wesley Snipes. If we can bring back Blade, I’d definitely be Blade in every Blade movie.”
While Mackie wants to be the next Blade in the Marvel film, it isn’t really happening for him as he is already set to be the next Captain America. But there is one more actor who almost played the role. However, the role ultimately went to Snipes.

Oscar-winning actor who almost played the role of Blade
Among the long list of contenders for the role of Blade was Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington who almost played the iconic role. Known for his action flicks, Washington also would have been a great fit for the role.
However, the writer of the film, David S. Goyer envisioned Wesley Snipes in the titular role and ended up casting him as one. However, Goyer’s keen eye for detail is indeed commendable as Snipes indeed excelled in the role.
