Xbox fans, through the years, have had the support of Microsoft’s excellent cloud service on different platforms. Part of the community fun comes from instantaneously sharing gameplay recordings and screenshots with friends or streaming gameplay without having to worry about the buggy interface. With the recent September update, Xbox has enabled an automated function for players to have their screenshots and game clips safely uploaded to OneDrive.
Considering OneDrive’s famous worldwide cloud service and accessibility, this looks like a positive move towards storage management for all Xbox users.
Here’s How You Can Safely Backup All Your Xbox Game Captures
If you’re on the latest update, you can double-check your game captures to make sure they’re backed up. To do this, head to the Captures app and view all your files on the Xbox network. You’ll be notified if any of your captures are in line for an upcoming deletion.
In the case of managing or moving your existing bulk uploads, you can head to your captures’ location. To do so, press the Xbox button and select:
My games & apps → See all → Apps → Captures.

Once you sort this out, you turn on a system setting that allows future uploads to automatically go to OneDrive instead of saving them on the hard drive or any other default way you’re used to. This is a feature that’s yet to arrive on all consoles, so stay on the lookout.
OneDrive May Just Be a More Permanent Solution to Xbox Backups
Before this update, players had gotten into the habit of carefully selecting which backups they needed to keep as their ‘magnum opus’ because the default cloud service wouldn’t let them store anything beyond a 90-day period. After that mark, players have to bid farewell to their gameplay memories, no matter how slick their gunplay was or how goofy one of their friends acted in an online lobby.

If you happen to be one of those Xbox players who constantly takes screenshots and documents every other memorable moment you’ve had in your games, OneDrive will be your best bet going forward. Not only does this make it simpler to upload clips onto a cloud service without worrying, but it also makes it easier to transfer screenshots and gameplay across devices like mobile or PC, making it easier to share it on social media, too.
