After serving the vast audience base with landmark sagas and epic franchises, Zack Snyder finally reflected upon his tumultuous journey with DC. While waiting for his highly anticipated upcomingRebel Moon, the acclaimed filmmaker discussed why his idea for theStar Warsmovie never came to fruition.

Discussing his legacy, Zack Snyder mentioned how he evolved as a director with DC to eventually make his way out of the studios. Stating howRebel Moon‘s origin was actually his unsuccessful pitch forStar Wars, Snyder explained how his idea allegedly led Disney to dismiss the filmmaker.

Disney Dismissed Zack Snyder And His Request
While Netflix is set to release the space operaRebel Moonin December 2023, Zack Snyder reflects upon the refashioned concept of the original film. Discussing how the fate ofRebel Moonbegan its life from the director’s original idea forStar Wars, Snyder broke down his discussion with Lucasfilm.
In an interview withEmpire,Zack Snyderreminisced about pitching an epic idea for theStar Warsmovie to Lucasfilm. “There was that window where, you know, who knows what’s possible?” Snyder stated. “I was like, ‘I don’t want any of your characters. I don’t want to do anything with any known characters, I just want to do my own thing on the side.’” the director stated his request to Disney.

“Originally I was like, ‘It should be rated R!’ That was almost a non-starter. I knew it was a big ask, to be honest. But the deeper I got into it, I realized it was probably never going to be what I wanted.” Zack Snyder shared.
Both, Disney and Zack Snyder realized, that he won’t be able to satisfy himself with the project. Considering the idea pitched by Snyder to be humongous, Disney allegedly released the filmmaker from his responsibilities. Dismissing Snyder, Disney never allowed the epic pitch to appear in the newStar Warsmovie.

Rebel MoonIs An Unsuccessful Pitch ForStar Wars
After Disney refused Zack Snyder’s idea forStar Wars, the acclaimed filmmaker mentioned conjuring up his own universe. Thus, ultimately revamping the unsuccessful pitch for aStar Wars,Snyder teased his fans with an epic sci-fi blockbusterRebel Moon. Associating with Netflix, the movie is slated to debut on 22nd December 2023.
Planning a trilogy of films withRebel Moonbeing the first installment, Zack Snyder is excited “to unleash his visual imagination to the fullest extent”. Adding to limits to his unbridled creativity, the filmmaker is further set to release two versions, afterRebel Moonhits the theatres with its R-rated storyline.

Snyder is more than certain thatRebel Moonwouldn’t have come to reality if Disney would have accepted his proposal forStar Wars. Thus, he appeared glad to be able to direct his second original film without any limitations. On the other hand,Lucasfilmis set to work with director James Mangold, who teased a few details regarding the newStar Warsmovie, which is in the making.
Rebel Moonis scheduled to premiere on Netflix on 22nd December 2023.
