George Miller’s Request was Denied by Studio Execs
In the clip, George Miller talks about his dream of releasing aMad Maxfilm in black and white—a desire he has had sinceRoad Warriorin 1981. Even though his request was denied earlier, it was soon released on Blu-ray containing his black-and-white film version.
Miller recalls seeing a low-cost version of the color print while Brian May composed the soundstage score, thinking that’s how the movie should have been released. He said (viaGuardian):

“”Something about black and white, the way it distills it, makes it a little bit more abstract. Something about losing some of the information of color make it somehow more iconic.”
The director admitted that certain scenes in the black-and-white edition ofFury Roadplay better than in color, while others lack essential information. Yet, Miller asserted,“But overall, for me,it’s the best version of the movie. It’d be interesting to see if you agree.”

The Chrome edition of the film got a special theatrical release at the 2016 SpectreFest in Los Angeles on November 1.

George Miller’sMad Max: Fury Road– Black & Chrome Edition Improved the Viewing Experience
George Miller‘s take onMad Max: Fury Road – Black & Chrome Editionwas completely right because it improved the viewing experience. And with the monochromatic look, it’s more easier to follow the fast-paced action of the film.
The colored version gives the movie a new tone, look, and feel. But the black and chrome clearly define the shapes of the film’s action cast.
Its black and chrome aesthetic adds a noir touch. It hones the character’s tragic backstory within the post-apocalyptic setting. While the narrative and characters remain consistent, the Black & Chrome Edition transforms the film, totally aligned with Miller’s preferred vision.
