DeVine believes, with superhero movies dominating the box office, audiences have grown accustomed to witnessing high-budget spectacles, costing hundreds of millions of dollars. The result is a disparity in perceived value, leading some to question whether investing in comedy films is“worth it.”He emphasizes:
“People might flock to theaters for superhero films and find them hilarious, but they hesitate to do the same for comedy movies.”
In a nostalgic moment, DeVine recalled a time when the comedy genre thrived, with 45-46 comedy films gracing the silver screen each year. Moviegoers could expect a new comedic gem almost every week. However, he expressed incredulity at the current state, with a mere 6-7 comedies released in theaters the previous year. The decline in the number of comedy offerings is indeed a cause for concern.
