Jason Momoa is set to reprise his DC role in the upcoming filmAquaman 2.The movie has been in conversation for several reasons, whether it’s about Momoa’s future in the DCU or the series of extensive reshoots following James Gunn’s plans to reboot the superhero franchise. One such discussion has also been focused on Amber Heard’s character, Mera, in the movie. Many fans have been against the actress’ involvement in the movie following the Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard trial.

She has testified that her part in theAquamansequel was“pared down”during the defamation trial. The director of the film recently responded toThe Rum Diaryactress’ claims while stating that the sequel was meant to focus on Arthur and Orm’s relationship instead of Mera and Arthur.

Aquaman 2Focuses on Arthur and Orm’s Relationship
During his recent interview withEntertainment Weekly, filmmakerJames Wantalked about his upcoming movie,Aquaman 2.Among other things about the movie, the director also addressedAmber Heard’sremarks about her part being cut down fromThe Lost Kingdom.
He said that the movie was never meant to focus on her character as it would be a bromance action adventure following Arthur and his Atlantean half-brother, Orm, portrayed byPatrick Wilsonin the movie series. The Australian filmmaker said,

“I always pitched this to everyone from the get-go. The first Aquaman was Arthur and Mera’s journey. The second movie was always going to be Arthur and Orm.”
He further stated that, unlike the 2018 film, the sequel will be a“bromance action-adventure movie.”The director’s statement and the first official synopsis of the movie seemingly suggest that Orm and Arthur could team up to fight David Kane, aka Black Manta.

The plot, however, seems quite similar toChris Hemsworth’sThor: Ragnarok.The God of Mischief served as Thor’s nemesis until the events ofRagnarok,when join hands to go against their sister and the goddess of death, Hela, and save the people of Asgard.

Warner Bros. Released the First Official Synopsis ForAquaman 2
Released in 2018 and introducing Jason Momoa as the Atlantis superhero,Aquamanbecame the highest-grossing DC film of all time, with a $1.1 billion box office collection. The sequel to the movie is set to hit theatres in December this year.
The studio recently released the first teaser ofAquaman 2,and the trailer of the movie will also be out soon. Following its teaser, the studio released the first official synopsis of the movie. As per the movie’ssynopsis, the movie features a“more formidable”Black Manta trying to avenge his father’s death from Aquaman.
The synopsis also states that Arthur will“turn to his imprisoned brother”Orm to form an“unlikely alliance”to fight against a common enemy and protect their kingdom. It also suggests that fans could see a team-up between the present and the former King of Atlantis.
Aquaman and The Lost Kingdomis set to release on June 11, 2025.
