Robin Williams has always been looked on as a kind actor and one of the greatest comedians that ever lived. It was he who forgave Mel Gibson when the actor had found himself in a pretty big controversy in a case of drunk driving.

With people refusing to work with Mel Gibson, Robin Williams defended the actor by saying that he was a gentleman but not without flaws. Stating that drinking brings a different side of a person that even they are not aware of, Williams found peace with Mel Gibson when no one else did.

With notable and iconic movies to his name, Mel Gibson had indeed found status in Hollywood. It wasn’t lost until in 2006, the actor was arrested for Driving Under Influence or DUI. As per the reports, Gibson went on a violent tirade when the police officer would not allow him to go home and made some racist remarks.

Due to this controversy, Hollywood blacklisted Gibson from appearing and creating movies for almost a decade. During these tough times, Robert Downey Jr. advocated for the actor when no one else did. An old interview with veteran actorRobin Williamshowever, revealed that the actor had quickly forgiven Mel Gibson as soon as the controversy had occurred.
Stating that people are different when they are drunk, Williams stated that he too had his own inner demons. Robin Williams further stated that Hollywood would quickly agree to work with Gibson again if they found the actor bankable.

“No, that’s another side of yourself that you don’t even know and I would say that and he said afterwards, you know, I mean he’s repentant and said all those things and I [Mel Gibson] wasn’t there. There is another person who appears.”
TheDead Poets Societyactor further continued,
“Don’t work with him but there’s also a lot of people saying if his next movie makes money, they’ll somehow work with him, you know? He’s a brilliant guy. Does he have flaws? Yes. Does he admitted it? Yes”
Being a comedian, it was tough for Robin Williams to maintain his life while suffering from Parkinson’s disease. The actor was found dead by suicide at the age of 63 but the world would remember him as a legend.

On the night of June 18, 2025,Mel Gibsonwas arrested by a police officer under the cause of drunk driving. In a 2011 article, the actor was reported saying“My life is over. I’m f*cked. Robyn’s [Gibson] going to leave me”.The report further stated that Gibson went on an angry tirade and blamed Jews for all the problems in the world.

The report ended with Gibson asking the arresting officer whether he was a Jew or not. After the media backlash, theBraveheartactor was blacklisted by Hollywood for almost a decade. In 2016, a Gibson-directed movie titledHacksaw Ridgewas released which received six Academy Award nominations.
Mel Gibson is currently attached as the director of his upcoming magnum opus titledThe Passion of the Christ: Resurrection.The 2024 movie will work as a sequel to his 2004 movieThe Passion of Christwhich made gave him the status of a veteran director in Hollywood.
