Many fans did claim that Lawrence’s character in the film was intended to represent Mother Nature and the invasion of her house by strangers was representing the environment getting destroyed by humans. But nothing can’t be said for sure about Aronofsky’s work and the true meaning behind his film still remains up for debate.

Although Jennifer Lawrence wasn’t exactly sure about the true meaning behind the film’s convoluting plot, witnessing the negative reviews had a heavy impact on the actress. Considering that Lawrence pushed herself over the limits to deliver justice to her then boyfriend’s vision, which took a heavy toll on the actress, the film’s underwhelming reception left her heartbroken.
