Being an incredibly successful actor and wrestler, Dwayne Johnson is one of the most influential people in Hollywood. He is known to be one of the biggest action movie stars and continues to be a role model for many in the masses. So it is humbling to know that regardless of how successful you are, anyone can struggle with their mental health.

This is what The Rock recently opened up about on The Pivot podcast. He went on about his battle with depression, one he has fought his entire life, and about how his daughters were a glimmer of hope in his dark times. The Black Adam star has also shared his experience of what it was like to grow up in a poverty-ridden household as a single child.

Dwayne Johnson’s Struggle with Depression Through the Years

Dwayne Johnsonelaborated on his childhood, growing up in a household where they struggled to afford the basics and had even been evicted. He also talked about his mother’s mental state at the time. When Johnson was only 15, his mother attempted sui**de. She does not seem to remember this which Johnson believes is for the best.

“What’s crazy about that suicide attempt is that to this day, she has no recollection of it whatsoever. Probably best she doesn’t,” Johnson said to daily express.

The Rock also went on to talk about his university experience. He recalled these days when he didn’t feel like going to school and ended up leaving school due to his depression. The star did not recognize this to be depression until much later. He did however manage to pick himself back up and not end up suicidal like his mother by focusing on healing and reminding himself that he is not alone.

How Dwayne Johnson’s Daughters Helped Him Through His Depression.

Dwayne Johnson paid an ode to his daughters for where he is today in regard to his mental health. He explained at around 2017, he experienced this depressive state again but this time he recognized what it was. He went on to appreciate the people around him during this time that helped him get through this.

“Years later, around 2017 or so, went through a little bit. I knew what it was at that time, and luckily, at that time, I had some friends who I could lean on, and say, ‘You know, I’m feeling a little wobbly now. Got a little struggle happening. I’m seeing a little grey and not the blue.” He said.

He also specified how important of a role his daughters played in his recovery. He referred to them as his ‘saving grace’ and talked about how this was what it was truly about.
