Reprising her role as Neytiri from the firstAvatarmovie back in 2009, Zoe Saldaña was more than happy to come aboard the sequel train. Talking about the success ofAvatar: The Way of Water,the actress claimed that she had impeccable trust in James Cameron.

Sam Worthington, who portrays the lead character of Jake Sully, andZoe Saldañasat down for an interview with The Wrap. Here’s what the actors had to say when they were asked about having any second thoughts on signing the sequel deal. Saldana said,

“No. He could have said 60 movies, and I would’ve been like, “Done. Where’s the pen in the paper and I’ll sign right here. Done.”

Sam Worthington went above and beyond to explain their love for James Cameron and why they decided to sign the contract.

“You want work with a collaborator that respects everybody. Whether you’ve never done a movie or Kate Winslet who is an icon. You want someone that can navigate his way amongst all of those people and leads by example. The guy took up the hobby of free diving. That wasn’t just something he asked us to do. He’d already conquered it before he asked us to do it.”

The decision was certainly not a bad one since at of now,Avatar: The Way of Waterhas reached the mark of $1.762 billion at the global box office. During the interview, the duo also revealed that the plans for a sequel were as far back as the year 2013 due to the reception ofAvatar (2009).

Zoe Saldaña revealed that during the shooting of the first movieAvatar,the plans for a sequel were already inJames Cameron’smind. Stating that the answer lay in the success of the first movie, the reception afterward was mind-blowing for the director and the stars.

“I think when we were shooting the first “Avatar.” It was more, “When I grow up I’m going to do this,” that kind of essence, which was quite endearing. It’s like, “Well, if this movie does well, and we prove this concept, I have so many ideas for what we’re going to do in Pandora.” And that was very promising. Never in a million years could we have imagined the reception that “Avatar” was going to have. So in 2013, I think at the premiere or during award season, Jim’s like, “Oh yeah, we’re going to totally go back.”

The sequel to the 2009 movie has been doing all the better than its predecessor.Avatar: The Way of Wateris currently running in theaters worldwide.
