Dominique Thorne depicted the role of Riri Williams aka Ironheart inBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever. Thorne’s Ironheart made its debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe through the second Black Panther movie.Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,which held special importance after the demise of Chadwick Boseman, didn’t disappoint the fans and tribute to the late actor pretty well. Thorne in an interview revealed that the makers deleted some scenes which resembled previous Iron Man scenes.

Dominique Thorne Revealed Deleted Scenes which Resembled Iron Man’s Journey
Dominique Thorne’s MCU character Ironheart can be seen as the successor of Iron Man following his departure. Thorne’s character Riri Williams is a tech genius and creates her own armor just like Tony Stark. During one of the scenes in the movieBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever, where Dominique Thorne’s character Riri Williams and Letitia Wright’s character Shuri were imprisoned by underwater enemies. A major part of that scene was deleted where both the emerging superheroes can be seen strengthening their bond. This particular scene had a lot of resemblance with Tony Stark’s imprisonment during the firstIron Manmovie released back in 2008.
“A lot of those moments in the cave were definitely strong, relationship-building moments for Shuri and I. That was definitely the first time that… We obviously know and associate both these characters with an incredible amount of brilliance, but this was, in that cave, sort of the first time that they’re both realizing, ‘Oh, you speak my language. Okay, I don’t have to alter myself. I don’t have to tone it down. We can just get straight to the meat of the problem’.”
The deleted subplot included Riri accompanying Shuri for the Talokan visit. Both the superheroes used their common brilliance to notice the key to their escape. Both the heroes who have been kidnapped by Namor in the particular scene secretly managed to collect parts to build their own escape route. The scene has a clear resemblance to Tony Stark’s escape in the 2008Iron Manmovie where Ho Yinsen aided him.
“In this case, it’s the fact that they’ve been kidnapped and that Shuri has gained the favor of Namor at the time. So, there were moments where, actually, how Shuri goes out into Talokan, and she’s getting to see the city where Riri joins them as well, and they discover as they’re taking this view, Riri notices the thing that’s powering them, the Sastun that they mentioned, could be used to help them escape…
And so from that point, it’s really them using that shared brilliance and what Riri’s now seeing as an opportunity to build and strategize their way out of there under the guise of helping them find a more efficient way to distribute their power. From there, the two of them are work-shopping there, working on this thing for them that they say they’ll give them in exchange for their life, but all the while, sort of siphoning off materials and supplies to rig their own distraction and get out of there. And while they’re doing that, just sort of talking about life experiences.”

Dominique Thorne’s Ironheart’s Connection with Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man
Dominique Thorne’s character, who is an MIT genius can be seen highly influenced byRobert Downey Junior’s character. Ignoring the basic resemblance in their hero names, the emerging star in comics can be seen having direct interactions with Iron Man. Thus the news that the scenes which could have connected both heroes have been deleted has immensely disappointed fans. Though Thorne revealed that a sneak peek into the deleted scenes’ audio can be seen used in the trailer of the movie.
“We did, though, use the audio from one of those building moments, and that’s the audio that we hear… I think it’s the montage with Riri, and the flamethrower, and all that. But that audio was originally for them building in the cave. And Shuri’s like, ‘So, when did you build your first machine? Who did you learn this from?’ Riri references her dad, which for all the Ironheart folks they’ll know that’s how she took up her name. And Shuri, of course, talks about her brother. That was truly the inspiration for her. So yeah, it was a really big sort of bonding, smart-girl, ‘Let’s get out of here’.”

It looks like the makers didn’t really want to delete the scenes but were constrained by the time duration of the movie. Nonetheless, the movie came out as a success with the strong introduction of two of the superheroes. Thorne will be soon seen reprising her role of Ironheart in the upcomingDisney+solo comprising six episodes, planned to release in late 2023 under Marvel phase 5.
