In a time when superhero media was just starting to blow with releases from DC and Marvel, Will Smith suited up for an original Superhero film,Hancock, which also comprised Charlize Theron. Even thoughHancockwas originally set to be a franchise launcher, despite its modest success, the sequel to the 2008’s movie never came to fruition. Hancock’sdirector explained why the sequel didn’t move forward
Among the many reasons that resulted in the scrapping of a possible sequel toHancock, including the bloom of MCU with RDJ’sIron Man, creative differences also seem to be one of the reasons. Not long after the first movie, director Peter Berg realized that a sequel to theWill Smith-led film wouldn’t move forward anytime soon, due to scheduling conflicts and creative differences. He said,
“To get us all in the same room where we can talk and then agree on anything? You’ll never meet a group of people who will have a harder time agreeing on anything. It’s like the Israeli peace process times a thousand in how tough it is for us all.”
