In an interview,Ethan Hawketalked about the good old movies from back in the 1980s and 90s. Talking about a classic 1989 Spike Lee movie, the actor revealed that he was left speechless after watchingDo the Right Thingin theaters and that he had no words. TheSinisteractor remarked that rarely does a political movie sit with you in your thoughts andDo the Right Thingwas one of those movies.

“I think that Do The Right Thing is a masterpiece. I remember walking out of the movie theater and I just couldn’t talk to anybody. I couldn’t speak. It’s really rare that you can make a political movie that is so personal. It doesn’t have an agenda with you besides the truth. And it’s so funny, and the use of color. It was Spike Lee finding his absolute original voice and just throttling you with the truth.”

Being an honorable actor, Hawke stated that he felt deeply for the racism showcased in the movie was true to what people were experiencing in real life too.
