Due to her portrayal, she even bagged the Academy Award for Best Actress. However, her tremendous win at the age of 26 wasn’t much liked by the industry.

The 50-year-old actress,Gwyneth Paltrowin a recent interview on theCall Her DaddyPodcast shared her opinions on the major Oscar win forShakespeare in Love.

She was 26 years old at the time of her win, which only brought her a moment of happiness, as what she faced afterwards was much more overwhelming for her.
“Once I won the Oscar, it put me into a bit of an identity crisis, because if you win the biggest prize, like what are you supposed to do? And where are you supposed to go?”

She continued,
“It was hard the amount of attention that you receive on a night like that and the weeks following, it’s so disorienting. And frankly, really unhealthy. I was like, ‘This is crazy. I don’t know what to do, I don’t know which way is up.’ It was a lot. Not that I would give it back or anything, it was an amazing experience, but it kind of called a lot of things into question for me.”

She also opened up about how she felt that the public turning on her after she won the award at the time. There was a major shift seen after she won the award, as many were convinced that the film snubbed the Oscar for the deserving film, which was quite a popular one.

Paltrow also got candid about the change she felt after winning the Best Actress Oscar. She shared,
“I felt a real pivot on that night because I felt like up until that moment everybody was kind of rooting for me in a way. And then when I won, it was like too much, and I could feel a real turn.”
The actor, while accepting the award, broke into tears as she thanked her parents, Blythe Danner and Bruce Paltrow. She was pestered by the press for sobbing on stage. Shortly after that, her father passed away in 2002 who was sick with cancer.
She recalled,
“I just thought, ‘Wow there’s this big energy shift that’s happening. I think I’m going to have to learn to be less openhearted and much more protective of myself and filter people out better.”
Though her experience was not the best,Shakespeare in Lovereceived much criticism as many witnessed that the film garnered major awards of the night including the major Best Picture win. Meanwhile, Steven Spielberg’sSaving Private Ryan,which stormed into fans’ hearts that year, didn’t get the deserved appreciation.
Many pointed out that infamous personality, Harvey Weinstein had a major contribution in attaining the Oscars by his side. It was well-known that his influence was much more than one could imagine in the industry at the time, so swaying the judges to get what he wanted was not a big deal for him. He ran an aggressive campaign to get major votes for the film, meanwhile, Spielberg remained neutral which eventually favored the former, who had a massive win over Spielberg’s film.
