How to Change Default Fonts on Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote

Microsoft Office apps came with the Calibri since past 15 years. After considering user feedback for years, the software giant suddenly replaced Calibri with Aptos as the default font in Word, Outlook, and other Office apps. Though this change is permanent, you can change the default font to Calibri or any other on the Office apps. If you are among those who want to do that, use the steps below to change default fonts on Microsoft Word, Outlook, and other Office apps on a Windows 11 computer.

Change Default Font on Microsoft Word

You can launch a blank document in Microsoft Word and change the default fonts from the top toolbar on your Windows 11 computer. Follow the steps below to make tweaks.

1.Launch Microsoft Word and open a new blank document.

2.Expand theHometab and click the down arrow icon beside theFontmenu.

3.Select the font style you want to set as default.

4.You can also tweak font style, size, color, add underline style and color. These add-ons are optional.

5.HitSet As Defaultat the bottom and clickOK.

From now on, whenever you create a new document or afillable formusing the blank document template, the desktop app uses your set font style and size as default.

Change Default Font in Microsoft PowerPoint

Instead of changing fonts in each slide individually, you can change the default font for the entire presentation using the steps below.

1.Open a new presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint.

2.SelectViewat the top-right corner and selectSlide Master.

3.Expand theFontsmenu.

4.Select one of the default fonts from the drop-down menu.

5.you may also customize font from the bottom menu. Select your heading and body font, give it a relevant name and hit Save.

You can save your PowerPoint presentation as a template to use the selected fonts as default.

1.When you change fonts using Slide Master, go back to the main menu and selectFileat the top.

2.ClickSave As. SelectBrowse.

3.Navigate to the path below.

4.Rename the file, select PowerPoint template from the drop-down menu and clickSave.

After that, whenever you want to create a new presentation, select your template in PowerPoint, and your default fonts are ready to use.

Change Default Font in Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel has a straightforward way to change the default fonts for your new workbooks. Follow the steps below to make changes.

1.Launch a new workbook in Microsoft Excel.

2.ClickFileat the top-left corner.

3.Open theOptionsmenu.

4.It opens theGeneralmenu.

5.Select your default font from the drop-down menu. Tweak font size and make other tweaks if you prefer.

6.SelectOk, and you are good to go.

Change Default Font in Microsoft Outlook

Microsoft offers a couple of Outlook apps to manage your emails on Windows. There is a legacy Outlook app and a new web-based one to check your inbox. Whether you use an old app or prefer a new one, check the steps below to change default fonts.

Old Outlook App

1.Launch Outlook app on Windows. ClickFileat the top-left corner.

2.OpenOptions. ClickMail.

3.SelectStationery and Fontsfrom the right pane.

4.Click the font below for new mail messages.

5.Set your preferred font style, type and size from the following menu. ClickSet As Default. HitOk.

6.Similarly, you can change default fonts when replying or forwarding messages and composing and reading plain text messages.

Make necessary changes and clickOK.

New Outlook for Windows

As mentioned, Microsoft is working on a new web-based Outlook app on Windows. If you prefer it, use the steps below to change the default fonts on it.

1.Open the new Outlook app on Windows. Select Settings at the top.

2.SelectMailfrom the left sidebar and clickCompose and reply.

3.Change your default fonts and check the preview at the bottom.

Close the menu to save changes.

Change Default Font in Microsoft OneNote

Microsoft OneNote also lets you change the default fonts in the app. Go through the steps below to make tweaks.

1.Launch OneNote app on Windows.

2.SelectFileat the top-left corner.

3.Change the font type, size and color from the drop-down menu.

ClickOk. After that, OneNote uses your favorite font style whenever you create a new note.

Work With Your Preferred Font Style

While Aptos is a welcome upgrade over Calibri, some dislike Microsoft’s new default fonts in Office apps. Using the methods above, you can change the default fonts in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other preferred Office app quickly.
