Speaking on this in an interview recently, the actor revealed his own expectations with his character and what truly makes the Grand Admiral one of the most devious villains the franchise has ever experienced.

According to him, although the new ruler of the Empire does not have any traditional superpowers, he is set to prove himself as one of the strongest foes the main character Ahsoka will have to face. However, as the show unravels, he claims that not only her, but the audience too, will see what makes Grand Admiral Thrawn one of the strongest to ever exist.

Lars Mikkelsen claims Thrawn is Ahsoka’s true rival

Gracing one of the last panels at theStar WarsCelebrationfan convention,Lars Mikkelsenexpressed his enthusiasm to reprise his role as Grand Admiral Thrawn. He also expressed his admiration for the deeply conniving mind of his character, saying, “That bloke, he doesn’t have the force. He’s not a Jedi, he’s not a superhero of any kind, but he has the brain.”And through that, he manages to outshine all the above-mentioned and then some.

He mused a little about his own vision of how Thawn in that regard will stack up against the protagonist Ahsoka, Sabine, and the other ‘good’ characters people are gonna see and they will antagonize in the series.

Answering his own question, he said,“His superpower is his mind, which is really and always like seven paces ahead of everybody. And I’m in that sense also ahead of you as an audience, I think. So that’s what you expect.”This only added to hardcore Star Wars fans’ already bursting excitement about the series.

Grand Admiral Thrawn came to life in the 1990s series ofStar Warsnovels which were later taken out of the canon universe to focus more on the last three movie sequels after Disney took over Lucasfilm. However, the ice-blue-skinned Admiral, who was trying to reign the Empire by taking control of the Imperial Fleet and destroying the New Republic, was already a fan-favorite by then.

As such, his appearance inStar Wars: Rebels, voiced by Lars Mikkelsen, gave fans not only a reward for their patience but also a hope that they will see him in a live-action project at some point.
