Although MCU’s phase four was a mixed bag for the huge franchise, the Marvel studios did try to step up their game and rise above their formulaic approach with Chloe Zhao’sEternals. Even though there were a lot of expectations that hovered around the movie before its release, the end product left the fanbase divisive upon its release.

Although its poor box office performance was also a result of the film hitting theatres at the height of the pandemic, its mixed reception from fans and critics certainly didn’t help with its theatre run. However, it seems that the movie has created another buzz on the internet, as some fans debate whether the movie was underappreciated upon its release and showcased their support for it.

Twitter divided overEternalsafter fans share support for Chloe Zhao’s film
One of the several reasons that led to the movie’s eventual box office failure was some of the controversial choices, which got the movie banned from certain countries. However, many fans have come forward in support ofChloe Zhao‘s film and even going further to claim it as one of the top 10 MCU films. Following this, many have also come forward to argue over this opinion, as they claimed that despite having an ambitious vision, the movie suffered from being overstuffed with too many characters.

On a rewatch of the entire series chronologically and hit Eternals a few weeks ago.

Really disliked it my first time around. Appreciated it about 10x more in the second viewing.
Would not hit my Top 10, but man I really dug it after giving it another shot.

I don’t like it, it’s my least favorite film in the entire MCU (by quite a lot). The characters felt flat and shallow and the plot felt rushed.

Although it doesn’t seem that the debate surrounding this topic is going to slow down anytime soon, despite its flaws, the movie was a fresh breather for the fans, following its shift from the formulaic approach. Even though the movie did suffer from having too many characters, it might have worked out better as a Disney Plus series. But despite having a limited runtime, Chloe Zhao did manage to showcase her brilliance with the resources she was allotted and crafted a fresh experience for fans.
