Tom Cruise played the role of Joel Goodson in the movieRisky Business.Cruise was reportedly only 21 years old when he was signed by the makers for this film. The movieRisky Business wasreleased on 08 June 2025. The director of the movie Paul Brickman was very impressed with the 60-year-old actor.
Reportedly he had Cruise acting before and therefore he suggested him forRisky Businessand one more film. TheJack Reacheractor said when he was cast in the film Brickman had just believed in him.

Paul Brickman wanted to cast Tom Cruise forAmityville 3-D
Tom Cruisespoke during an interview on how he was cast for the movieRisky Business,TheTop Gunactor said he was filming for another movie when his agent set up a meeting with director Brickman. While talking about his audition, the 60-year-old actor said,
“Originally, Paul had seen Taps and said, ‘This guy for Joel? This guy is a killer! Let him do Amityville III!’ Somehow, my agent, without me knowing, arranged to have me just drop by the office to say hello. So I went in wearing a jean jacket, my tooth was chipped, my hair was greasy. “
He further added,
“Rebecca De Mornay had already been cast. They wanted to see the two of us together. I tested, and to make a short story long, we didn’t test that well. Paul just believed in me.”
Reportedly for some reason, Cruise wasn’t cast in the movieAmityville 3-Dalthough director Brickman had suggested the makers cast Cruise for the 1983 Horror film.

Tom Cruise had to lose some weight to play the role of Joel inRisky Business
Reportedly Cruise lost 14 pounds to make sure he has a baby face for the film as it was also the demand of his character Joel inRisky Business. TheMummyactor was on a strict diet and he used to run in the scorching heat of Flordia to attain the body goal he aimed for. Cruise said while talking about his weight loss journey,
“Joel’s a very vulnerable person. I didn’t want any physical defenses up for him. No muscle armor at all.”

Reportedly, he lost 14 pounds in just 5 weeks. The very famous underwear scene was also reportedly improvised by Cruise. He had some ideas when they were shooting for the scene. TheMission Impossibleactor said the movie is about capitalism. Cruise talked about how his character Joel bothers him, he said,
“It’s about today’s capitalistic society. Do the means justify the ends? Do you want to help people, or do you just want to make money? Joel is questioning all of that. So am I … I’m not saying I’m some erudite political figure—but it bothers me. At least I’m asking the question. The movie is Joel’s exploration of society, how he gets sucked into this wild capitalistic ride.”
As per reports Cruise dated hisRisky Businessco-star Rebecca De Mornay who played the role of Lana. The 60-year-old actor didn’t date Mornay until the film was released but Cruise did reveal that they were in a long-distance relationship.
