Chainsaw Manis one of the best-selling mangas of 2023 from Tatsuki Fujimoto. The Shonen, first published in December 2018, has over 100 chapters while the animated version, released on October 12 last year, is currently on the 12th episode. Its plot is divided into two parts, namely the Public Safety Saga and the Academy Saga.

Chainsaw Man Manga

It is common knowledge that mangakas take inspiration from their previous works or the works of other writers to introduce characters. Usually, the changes are subtle. Tatsuki Fujimoto also seems to have joined the list as his character of ‘Falling Devil’ inChainsaw Manhas an uncanny resemblance to Hiromi Arakawa’s ‘Homunculus Gluttony’ from Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.

Chapter 130,titledKill Building, gave readers the first glimpse at the true extent of powers possessed by the Falling Devil in the world ofChainsaw Man.The Hell-born creature feeds on the fear of humans and is based on the physical concept of falling and the psychological concept of falling into madness or despair.

The similarities between Falling Devil in Chainsaw Man and Homunculus Gluttony from Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

One of the striking features of Falling Devil is that its character design is similar to Gluttony. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood fans may remember how the rotund embodiment of gluttony could use the “Gate of Truth” power, in which a wide hole opened in his body from his lower jaw to his entire belly, with fangs that could elongate at will to tear open any prey.

A similar scene was seen inChapter 130ofChainsaw Manwhen the Devil opened its belly to reveal a mouth, complete with a tongue and teeth. Its lips had small tentacles that could lengthen at will and that tried to capture Denji and Asa to chuck them into its mouth.

One key difference between the two characters is that Gluttony’s mouth-stomach had an eye instead of possessing a tongue like the Devil. The eye could shoot laser beams and suck everything like a black hole into the dimensional void that it possessed.

Who defeats the Falling Devil in Chainsaw Man?

The original Chainsaw Man, Denji, was unable to defeat the Devil. After Asa was knocked unconscious, he tried to escape Hell along with her but was stopped by multiple Falling Devils. When all hope seemed lost, an unknown man revived Denji with his blood and allowed them safe passage by holding off the Devils himself.

The unknown man, seemingly belonging to the Devil Hunter Club due to his attire, has revealed himself to be another Chainsaw Man in the current arc. Events are getting more interesting as the story progresses to the fourth arc of the Academy Saga.
