It’s not an easy time to be aDestiny 2fan because Bungie has been testing the patience of its player community. Earlier this month, there were speculations all across the industry that the studio had reportedly delayed the upcoming expansion,The Final Shape, which meant that it’d be missing its initially planned February 2024 release.

Bungie has officially announced that Destiny 2: The Final Shape has been delayed.

What made the supposed news so believable was that Bungie was one of the unfortunate game companies that went through mass layoffs in 2023, worryingDestiny 2fans because everything just added up.

However, around two weeks after news about theDestiny 2: The Final Shapedelay started to make the rounds, Bungie has given an official update on the situation of the next chapter in theDestinyseries.

The Destiny 2 Dev Team has promised “new content” for the game until The Final Shape releases.

Bungie Has Officially Delayed Destiny 2: The Final Shape

In a blogposttitled “THE FINAL SHAPE RELEASE UPDATE,” theDestiny 2Dev Team at Bungie decided to rip off the bandaid and give it how it is to the fans. After greeting the community that was not exactly happy with the studio, the team kept the official update quick and to the point. Regarding the release date for the highly anticipatedDestiny 2: The Final Shapeexpansion, the Bungie dev team wrote:

The Final Shape needs more time to become exactly what we want it to be, so we’re moving its release date to June 28, 2025.

This completely falls in line with the aforementioned rumor that started just a couple of weeks ago, as Bungie has delayedDestiny 2: The Final Shapefour months ahead of its initially scheduled February launch.

Of course, the studio and the dev team knew that the news would not be well-received by the player base, so they went the sentimental route, stating that the upcoming expansion “is the culmination of the first ten years of Destiny storytelling and, for Guardians everywhere, countless hours spent together.”

TheDestiny 2Dev Team at Bungie claimed that it wants to fully respect that decade-long “journey,” which is why it wants to ensure that it provides the community with “an even bigger and bolder vision.”

Moreover, Bungie’s dev team is looking to create something truly memorable withDestiny 2: The Final Shape, hoping that it will be “treasured for years to come.” The blog post then discussed what else lies ahead in the studio’s future and its other releases, confirming that “Season of the Wish” will officially become available tomorrow, which is apparently the only thing that fans would have until the delayed expansion comes out in mid-2024.

Not much is changing when it comes to the “originally planned” aspects of the newDestiny 2season, so Bungie promised “new content” for the entire player base untilThe Final Shapefinally launches.

New Destiny 2 Content Is Coming Ahead of The Final Shape

TheDestiny 2Dev Team elaborated on what it exactly meant by the promised “new content,” stating that players will get to take part in “new weekly progression-based quests called Wishes” in February, which is notThe Final Shapebut is what Bungie can currently offer. There will also be “unique rewards” when “Moments of Triumph” gets released, and Guardian Games will now be available in March, as the studio truly wants to “focus on class vs. class competition.”

That is not all because in April,Destiny 2will receive “a two-month content update,” which will be called “Into the Light.”

Bungie claims that this will be the required preparation for players who want to get promoted from a Guardian to a Traveler, further mentioning even more planned content forDestiny 2in May, which includes “three new PvP maps.”

The dev team obviously realizes the fact that its fanbase has been waiting a long time forThe Final Shape, admitting that it knows “delays aren’t fun,” but that is not stopping it from being “excited to have the extra time needed to” polish and finalize the upcoming expansion. Basically, fans should not expect to hear anything fresh aboutDestiny 2until April, which is when the team at Bungie will share “all-new gameplay” for the aforementioned content.

Naturally, theDestiny 2fanbase is going to have questions aboutThe Final Shape, so the Bungie dev team also linked an FAQpageto end the blog post.
