A genre that was being overdone and felt repetitive, found a new hope in Chad Stahelski’sJohn Wickfranchise. With four movies in, the franchise has built a huge, loyal fan following which continues to hold it in the highest esteem.
Keanu Reeves has been highly praised for his portrayal of a hitman coming out of retirement to avenge his puppy. With each film,John Wickhas managed to reach new heights and it continues to do so. Just recently, the franchise has become a part of the one-billion-dollar club and fans are all in for the good news!

Chad Stahelski’sJohn Wickfranchise proves exactly why the action genre cannot die if projects are done right. This is backed by the adrenaline rush the audience feels when they watch the stunts of the franchise, which only got better with every film. And now, theJohn Wickfranchise has touched the billion-dollar mark, thanks to its latest installment,John Wick: Chapter 4.
Currently in theatres,John Wick 4has made around $425 million so far, becoming the highest-grossing installment of the franchise. Its predecessor,John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellumended its run with a total of $326.7 million. The second and first films of the franchise made $171.54 million and $87.8 million, respectively. Add all these numbers up and you’ll find the franchise in the billion-dollar club.

However, the earnings for the fourth film don’t seem to be stopping anytime soon as theKeanu Reeves-starrer is yet to be released in Japan. And to think this franchise was Stahelski’s directorial debut! We cannot wait to see more collaborations between the two.

What’s Next ForJohn Wick?
While on one hand, franchises tend to deteriorate with every new installment as fans simply find themselves detached to the storyline and characters. On the other hand, we haveJohn Wickwhich, clearly, only grew in popularity. Therefore, it’s pretty reasonable to think where the franchise is headed next.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Stahelski stated that he wanted to give the franchise some rest. He added that there is a possibility, however small, that he might reunite with Reeves to make another film for the series.
“In our minds, Keanu and I are done for the moment. We’re going to give John Wick a rest. I’m sure the studio has a plan. If everyone loves it and it goes kooky, then we’ll take a quiet minute…Keanu and I will take a long trip to Tokyo, we’ll sit in the Imperial Hotel Scotch Bar and go, ‘What do you think?’ We’ll have a couple 20-year-old whiskies and write some ideas on napkins. If those ideas stick, maybe we’ll make a movie.”
While there is some hope for a newJohn Wickfilm, let’s not get carried away as nothing can be said with certainty. Instead, let’s talk about something that is certain –Ballerina.The ‘Wick-Verse’ continues on with a spin-off titledBallerinastarringAna de Armas. The movie will be directed byLen Wisemanand Reeves is confirmed to be a part of it. A series,The Continental,is another spin-off based on the franchise which serves as a prequel to the whole story.
John Wick: Chapter 4is currently in theatres.Ballerinawill release on July 25, 2025, andThe Continentalis expected to release in late 2023.
