What issues occurred during this Alan Wake 2 demonstration?

Remedy’s communication director Thomas Puha was taking the opportunity to show the demo ofAlan Wake 2to a VIP when a few issues occurred as Thomas Puha put it, “Today was peak dev ‘fun,’“. As they attempted to boot up a demo build of the game, they came across numerous issues which stopped them from showing the most recent build of the game, so they decided to use an older version which was used at Summer Game Fest, which unfortunately “took hours to find.“.

Luckily this demo was found in the end, but this wasn’t the end to the troubles as this build began to also have issues even though it was being ran on the same kit that was used back when it was first shown.

This, unfortunately, isn’t the end of the troubles that came with this demonstration as Thomas Puha was getting rather frustrated, they began to try other methods of running the game. This included getting other builds of the game, which still would not work as they brought up numerous error codes; they then even brought in a PlayStation 5 kit to attempt to get it to work on there, but still no luck as the image would continue to cut out and refused to work.

Eventually, Thomas Puha got lucky as a “QA Hero” came to the rescue even though they didn’t work on the game, they attempted to try the demo on an entirely different kit, and luckily it began to work; in the end, Thomas Puha admitted that they should have just ran the demo on a PC in the first place as it was “probably the way to go,“.

Is this an indicator that Alan Wake 2 isn’t ready for release?

Many gamers would understandably take this information as the game isn’t ready for release at this time as it can’t even handle being used as a demo, but this just shows how frustrating it can be to be a developer as the slightest issue can cause a whole manor of issues that cannot be foreseen, and this is just one example to show that.

At the moment,Alan Wake 2is still on track to release on October 17th and will most likely stick to that release date; even though these issues have become known, Remedy will look into it and will hopefully fix these issues before the official release date whilst ensuring that the game itself doesn’t fall behind its release schedule.
