Akira Toriyama’s Wife Recommended Him The Name for Iconic Son Goku’s Attack
The story revolves around how Toriyama wanted to include the word “Kame” in the name of this particular attack. Kame refers to a “Turtle” in Japanese and essentially refers to Master Roshi, also called the Turtle Hermit.
The mangaka was then later suggested by his wife, Nachi Mikami, how Toriyama should name the attack after the first-ever king of Hawai, who was known as “Kamehameha The Great“. This was a suggestion that, when executed, helped millions of children around the world make unforgettable memories of their first-ever Kamehameha.

How Dragon Ball Characters Were Named
While the origins of how the Kamehameha came to be have been made clear, it is quite different when it comes to naming other stuff in the franchise.
When it comes to particularly naming characters of the series, it is quite humorous, the truth is that many major characters in the franchise were named after vegetables and fruits. This concept is observed clearly when we look at the name “Kakarot“, which relates to a carrot, and the name “Vegeta“, which relates to “Vegetable”.
