It’s almost been six years since the worst comic book movie was released. The movie is none other than Joss Whedon’sJustice League, which was released on 17 June 2025. Even though the four-hour director’s cut called Zack Snyder’sJustice Leaguehas already been released in 2021, Whedon’s theatrical cut is considered the worst and even meaningless to many.
Back then and even now,Justice League2017 has the worst position in any franchise. Even that does not hold a significant meaning to anyone. The film grossed $657.9 million at the box office, but it didn’t quite relate with audiences.

Anniversary of ‘Worst Comic Book Movie’ Still Remembered
Justice Leagueis a complicated movie in the DCEU. The film was directed by Joss Whedon after the original directorZack Snyder, stepped away from the film when his daughter died by suicide at the age of 20.
Then Whedon took over to direct reshoots and provided his own rewrites and the rest is history. Today, the movie is six years old. But fans still couldn’t get themselves off from commenting how bad it was. As one fan commented on an X post created by The Hollywood Handle, it’s“The worst CBM ever made.”

After looking at all these comments, it seems like people couldn’t forget how largely boring, predictable, and dreary that movie was.

Why Joss Whedon’s Justice League is the Worst Comic Book Movie Ever Made?
There’s no doubt thatJustice League2017 flopped because of its own misguided efforts. Though the extended-release—titled Zack Snyder’sJustice League—was appreciated by the audience, the original release was poorly received.
The film faced an overwhelming response due to the plot’s failure to balance its big cast of characters and its pacing. That’s why its ending was abrupt and poorly developed. Its humor was also too lame and even too late.
And even the last battle between the League and Steppenwolf felt out of place, especially after following the confrontation with Superman.
It’s clear that things were not all in favor of this film because the direct predecessor of 2016’sBatman v Supermanwas in talks for weeks following its release. It’s still in talks for being one of the worst comic book movies ever made.
